Thousands flock to see baby born with 8 limbs

Thousands have flocked to see a baby born with four arms and four legs in India, reported Central European News (CEN).
The baby, dubbed “God Boy” by his parents because they say he looks like an Indian God, was born in Baruipur, a city in India's eastern West Bengal State.
“When he first came out we couldn't believe it,” an unnamed relative told local TV. “The nurses said he was badly deformed, but I could see that this was a sign from God.”
“In fact, this is a miracle, it's God's baby,” the relative said.
The village is being overrun by curious believers from across the region.
“When we first heard about God Boy we were slightly skeptical,” Chukka Roa, 67, who came from a neighboring village, told CEN. “When we eventually saw a pic of the child it was a wonder. This is truly the son of the Hindu God Brahma, who also has four arms and four legs.”
Police say they are having trouble controlling the crowds.
“This is a freak baby and it is tragic, there is nothing Godly about him at all,” a police spokesman told CEN. “Hundreds are crying in the streets, hundreds of others are praying and setting up camp here.” The spokesman said he'd never seen anything like the crowds in his whole career.
Medics say the birth defect is actually the result of the remains of the baby's twin being joined to him in the womb – a condition referred to as a parasitic twin.
“This is similar to the way that conjoined twins form,” Dr. Manny Alvarez, senior managing editor of health at FoxNews.com and chairman of the department of obstetrics and gynecology and reproductive science at Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey said. “With conjoined twins, you have two living fetuses that are attached either by the head, abdomen or legs. [With a parasitic twin] it's the same principle, except there is a malformation of one of those twins. As a result, the twin never fully develops and is then partially encased in the living fetus.”
The family understands the excitement and interest in their newest member.
“It is only natural that people want to see the God Baby,” the family member told CEN

Nicki Minaj As Wife And Mother? Rapper Opens Up About Hopes For The Future

Nicki Minaj is a dominating force not just in rap, but in the entire world of music, entertainment, and pop culture. She’s only two albums deep, with a third, The Pinkprint, on the way this December. So, in many ways, it feels like there’s still a lot we’re expecting from Nicki musically. And while she has no plans to step back immediately, she does say that there’s something that could — and she hopes will — pull her away.
“I won’t use the word ‘retire’ but I would use the word ‘vacation’ — because I don’t believe in vacations, I don’t believe in holidays,” she told Complex for their new cover story. “I have to put out all six of my albums, contractually. After the fifth, I’ll probably have my baby.”
She seems pretty set on that timetable. From there, though, who knows how things will play out.
“I wonder if I’m going to be one of those women who balances my child with a career,” she said. “I always said, ‘When I have my baby, it’s going to be all about my baby.’ I don’t want the child feeling like they don’t have all of my attention, so I always said, ‘I’m going to take a little break.’ But we’ll see.”
In other parts of the interview, the Young Money artist talks about how her hectic scheduled has impacted her personal life — often negatively. She lamented the times when she’s come to New York — where her family lives — on business, without getting the chance to see loved ones. Which sounds like it’s especially hard, since she lives across the country, in California.
“[My biggest fear is] that I’ll become so consumed with work that I’ll forget to live my personal life to the fullest. If I’m done with my fifth album and I don’t have a child by then, no matter how much money I have, I would be disappointed, as a woman, because I feel like I was put here to be a mother.”
As for marriage?
“I have definitely put off the wife thing because I don’t want people in my business,” the 31-year-old, who has always been quiet about her dating life, added. “I’d rather not do anything that’s going to be on paper but I definitely will be married before I have my baby. I want to make sure I do it in that order. I’ve always felt like that since I was young; my mother always put that in my head. By the fifth album, I will have walked down the aisle and I will at least be on baby number one, possibly baby number two. And have $500 million.”
Hey, why not?
She also called The Pinkprint, “a dope balance of vulnerability and strength,” which we’ll all be able to hear firsthand on December 15.

Female alcoholics need help, not vilification

If you’re a woman with a drink problem, you get the wrong sort of attention – too much from the media, not enough from support servicesA woman drinking a glass of wine at home
‘Where can female drinkers – ashamed, vilified, and often even blamed for abuse they are subjected to – turn for help?’ Photograph: Alamy
Many women choose to drink at home. My friends and I drink too many bottles of wine at home. My alcoholic grandmother drank and died at home in the late 1970s. This is nothing new.
Public Health England statistics show there has been a 65% rise in the number of women over 60 being treated for alcoholism in the past five years. This comes hot on the heels of a survey earlier this month which found that women are more likely than men to drink a whole bottle of wine at home on their own. Both findings were part of much wider reports, which in fact showed that men drink more than women in all other contexts. Yet the media preferred “Women drink alcohol on their own” as the take-home message. They must all still be reeling from Bridget Jones.
In my novel The Other Ida the alcoholic protagonist has a habit of wetting the bed while she is drunk. I found it hard to write and I find it hard to write it again here; I am scared you will think I am attention-seeking, brash, or gross. But alcoholism isn’t any prettier for women than it is for men.
If you are a woman searching for advice about alcohol, you’ll probably find Drinkaware (a charity set up by the alcohol industry) at the top of the Google search results, with its special female-friendly page, telling you that drinking causes wrinkles and offers tips for hosting dinner parties. Yet the women who most need help do not host dinner parties. An alcoholic woman reaching out for help is unlikely to find her experience accurately reflected on the site. And the fact that in a list of side-effects, cancer is listed below “wrinkles” and “sexual performance/fertility” is not only exasperating – it’s dangerous. Alcohol campaigns largely target younger women, yet the risk of breast cancer – which peaks in the 60-64 age group – increases by about 7% for every unit drunk per day.
With public health messages focusing on drinking in pregnancy and the likelihood of being raped while drunk, is it any wonder that we drink at home? At home a stranger won’t get angry if we have a small glass of wine when pregnant. At home – we are led to believe – we won’t get raped. But while we are so quick to blame women who drink (and so often this is wrapped up in phoney concern), alcohol services are overwhelmingly geared towards men.
In my 20s I drank a lot at home. I knew I drank too much but figured it was a symptom of the chronic depression I was suffering from, not the other way round. It was a shock when an NHS psychologist said he couldn’t help, and was going to refer me to another service. Anxious, miserable 23-year-old me turned up at a King’s Cross address to find it was a drop-in centre for street-drinking alcoholics. The room was full of men with long matted beards, talking to themselves, staring at me, the whole cliched shebang. I was the only woman there. They couldn’t fit me in that day and, of course, I never went back.
Alcohol services in general are male-dominated – it has been suggested that Alcoholics Anonymous may not be as helpful for women as men. Their philosophy of submitting to a “higher power” can serve to further reduce the self-esteem of female alcoholics, and women – who often drink alone – might not find the group camaraderie so helpful.
This is the reality of alcoholism for women as well as men. But where can female drinkers – ashamed, vilified, and often even blamed for abuse they are subjected to – turn for help? The fancy infographics and fuzzy advice on the Drinkaware site? The horribly stretched NHS? Or AA (if they can handle opening up among men)? For its part, the government has announced it won’t be proceeding with minimum unit pricing. The truth is, women and men alike are dying of alcohol-related liver disease at alarming rates.
So what’s the answer? I would stop bullying women who drink, scrap the dinner party tips, cut the warnings about wrinkles and weight gain. Instead, I’d provide women with the facts about alcohol, clear advice about where to turn when they really do need help, and the targeted services to back it up.
Women of all ages who drink need to feel able to leave their homes, and for help to be there when they do.

"All women who want to become policewomen should keep their virginity,” says the police force's jobs website

Woman applying to join Indonesia’s national police aresubjected to “virginity tests” that are described by recipients as “painful and traumatic,” Human Rights Watch (HRW) said Tuesday.
Although senior police authorities insist the practice had been abolished, HRW claims to have interviewed female police officers and applicants in six Indonesian cities who had undergone the “discriminatory and degrading” test — two of them in 2014.
Nisha Varia, associate women’s rights director at HRW, said the practice “humiliates women” and called on police authorities to “immediately and unequivocally abolish the test, and then make certain that all police recruiting stations nationwide stop administering it.”
The practice is administered as part of the recruitment physical examination, two senior policewomen told HRW, and is intended to determine whether female applicants’ hymens are intact.
One 24-year-old recruit described the test as “really upsetting” in an interview with HRW. “I feared that after they performed the test I would not be a virgin anymore,” she said. “It really hurt. My friend even fainted because … it really hurt, really hurt.”
In response to the HRW report, a spokesman of the Indonesian police told local media that “there are no virginity tests in the selection of policewomen.” But he added: “In the selection process, there are comprehensive medical tests for men. In medical tests for men and women, we also conduct examinations of reproductive organs, not virginity tests.”
However, the Indonesian national police’s jobs website still states: “Policewomen must also undergo virginity tests. So all women who want to become policewomen should keep their virginity.”
Only 3% of Indonesia’s 400,000 police officers are women. Married women are not eligible to join the police.
“So-called virginity tests are discriminatory and a form of gender-based violence — not a measure of women’s eligibility for a career in the police,” Varia said. “This pernicious practice not only keeps able women out of the police, but deprives all Indonesians of a police force with the most genuinely qualified officers.”

Woman comes to bald eagle's rescue after mid-air battle

Venice, Florida -- A Florida Fish and Wildlife biologist was in the right place at the right time for one lucky bald eagle.
In a Facebook post, FWC says traffic on a Sarasota road screeched to a halt as drivers witnessed an "epic mid-air battle" between two eagles. Still fighting, the two birds crash landed into a nearby muddy ditch.
A 16-year-old girl saw the fight and told her mom that one of the eagles needed her help. She would be a good choice to come to the animal's aid; Michelle van Deventer is both an FWC biologist and Florida's bald eagle coordinator!
Van Deventer pulled to the side of the road and jumped into the ditch after seeing the winning eagle fly off, leaving the loser behind. With help from the Wildlife Center of Venice and Sarasota County Animal Services, she was able to secure the exhausted and stressed bald eagle.
The male eagle was taken to a WCV clinic and kept overnight. After determining it had no serious injuries, it was safely released the following morning.

The 6 Best Celebrity Versions of Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’

Taylor Swift

From Steve Carell to Kelly Clarkson, famous people just can't stop won't stop grooving to this song

If you keep finding yourself singing “Shake It Off” quietly (or loudly) to yourself at weird times, you’re definitely not alone. It seems nobody can get Taylor Swift’s ultra-catchy hit out of their heads — and that includes a whole bunch of celebrities.
And so, to honor the recent TIME cover star, here’s a look at some of those celebrities proudly belting the unshakeable hit. Some of these people are professional singers performing polished covers, others are just amateur vocalists proudly showing their love for Tay-Tay.

Steve Carell

In an appearance on ABC’s Popcorn with Peter Travers, the actor was asked what music has been playing in his head. He responded without missing a beat.

Kelly Clarkson

At a concert in Buffalo, N.Y., Clarkson treated fans to a soulful, gospel version of the song.

Kendrick Lamar

In a radio interview with The Fader, the rapper — whose respect and admiration for Swift has been documented — launched into an impromptu “Shake It Off” sing-along. (He later free-styled over the song’s beat.)

Barack Obama (kind of)

No, the President of the United States didn’t actually sing “Shake It Off,” but it sounds like he did thanks to some clever editing by the folks at The Tonight Show.

Meghan Trainor

She’s best known for her hit “All About That Bass,” but this time, Trainor grabbed a ukelele and performed a mellow but still totally catchy cover.

Kelly Ripa

Kelly Ripa didn’t actually sing, but she did channel Swift and recreate the music video with an astonishing attention to detail. A bunch of other celebrities — including Anderson Cooper, Sofia Vergara, Emma Stone and even Tay herself — make appearances in the spoof video.

Taylor Swift herself

Because, well, obviously.

This Might Just Be the Most Absurd Music Video Since ‘Gangnam Style’

The song is called "Chick Chick" and we have Chinese singer Rong "Rollin" Wang to thank for this

South Korean rapper Psy set the bar pretty high for totally absurd yet totally hypnotic music videos that become global phenomena with his 2012 smash hit “Gangnam Style.” It’s just going to be really tough for anyone to beat that — but it looks like one singer in China is trying.
Seriously, it’s gonna be tough. The “Gangnam Style” video has 2.1 billion views. Let that sink in.
But anyway, this valiant effort comes from Chinese pop star Rong “Rollin” Wang for the song “Chick Chick.” The video features women in sexy bird costumes line dancing, many animated farm animals, and men wearing nothing but tiny white shorts, knee socks and animal masks. Also, a whole bunch of chicken sounds.
So far, the video has racked up 6 million views, so it has a long way to go until it matches “Gangnam Style” levels of world domination. But it certainly has the raw materials.

State of Emergency Declared As Buffalo Pounded by Snowstorm

Wintry Weather New York

Four people have died from the storm

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency Tuesday forseveral counties in and around Buffalo, where a severe winter storm has already covered parts of the region in over three feet of snow.
The National Guard will be deployed to the affected communities to residents dig out, according a statement on the New York State governor’swebsite. Forecasters are predicting the snowy conditions could last through the week.
“This storm may persist until Friday morning with the potential for another two feet of snow,” Cuomo said in the statement. “New Yorkers in these areas should exercise extreme caution, and stay off the roads until conditions are clearer and safer.”

6 Reasons You Didn’t Get the Job (That No One Will Ever Tell You)

x

The way you speak can, surprisingly, be a huge indicator to your interviewer about whether you’re the right fit for the position

You dressed the part. You told engaging stories. You asked insightful questions. Frankly, you nailed the interview, but you didn’t get the job. What gives?
You can certainly try to ask for feedback after receiving a rejection, but most employers probably won’t say much. If they do, it’ll be something fairly generic, along the lines of “other qualified candidates.” That, of course, isn’t always the real reason—it’s just that the real reason might be a little too awkward to actually say to someone’s face.
So, what are some of these uncomfortable reasons for not selecting a particular job candidate? Read on for a list of commonly cited deal breakers that are pretty difficult for hiring mangers to admit to.

1. You Spoke Funny

Do you have a habit of making your statements sound like questions? Tend to speak in an overly casual or formal tone?
The way you speak can, surprisingly, be a huge indicator to your interviewer about whether you’re the right fit for the position. Maybe you sound too meek to manage a team of 10 or too aggressive to handle customer complaints. This might not be a fair assessment, but it happens all the time—so it’s definitely worth thinking about and practicing for as you’re doing mock interviews to prepare.

2. You, Um, Smelled Funny

And I don’t just mean that you didn’t shower. That could be it—or it could be that you overdid it on the cologne. Either way, you don’t want to be that interview candidate who overpowered the conversation with your aroma rather than your charisma.
To combat this, lay off the perfume and make sure your personal hygiene is top notch. Seriously, please don’t let this be the reason you didn’t get the job.

3. You Were Too Eager

Did you show up 45 minutes early to the interview? Did you offer to do the internship unpaid without being prompted? It’s good to be enthusiastic during your interview, but be careful not to be over the top. It can come off as a little much and, like the first example, even inconvenient for the hiring manager. Instead, show your excitement by being exceptionally well versed about the company and position. Top it off with a thank you note, and you’re all set.

4. You Were Too Arrogant

Don’t get me wrong: Confidence in an interview is essential, and apparently it’s even good to be a little narcissistic. But don’t step over the line toward being arrogant. This can really rub people the wrong way and make you seem a little hard to manage.
To make sure you’re not overdoing it, back up your claims and your skills with concrete stories, and show an openness to learn by asking thoughtful questions. And even if you think you have it in the bag, think twice before letting that show.

5. You Didn’t Pass the Airport Test

This reason might be the most awkward of them all: It’s possible that your interviewer just didn’t click with you. You’re not going to get along swimmingly with everyone, and most people are too polite to tell you if you didn’t with him or her.
That’s okay. The most you can do is try to be yourself. Do some mindfulness exercises before you head over to the interview, take a deep breath before you walk into the building, and relax. Don’t let people judge you based just on your nerves. Try to let your interviewer actually get to know you a bit.

6. You Weren’t the Internal Candidate They Wanted All Along

It’s a sad truth of job hunting: At many companies, hiring managers are required to do a few interviews before making a decision, even if they have a strong internal candidate that they probably knew from day one that they were going to hire. There’s pretty much no way to know when you’re interviewing for a position like this and, unfortunately, there’s almost nothing you can do. So, if you didn’t get the job, it could also very well be because it was impossible to get in the first place. Don’t get too hung up on it.
At the end of the day, there are some things you can control about the interview process (like showering and doing your company research), and then there are some things you can’t do anything about (like knowing your interviewer’s pet peeves ahead of time). So, do what you can and understand that interviewing is an incredibly subjective way to evaluate whether someone is a good fit for a position.

Jennifer Lawrence Says Lack Of Privacy Makes Her ‘Scared Every Day’

In an AP interview, the actress opened up about the emotional toll of being hounded by paparazzi.

Being chased by the paparazzi has long been an unfortunate, unchangeable fact of life for the very, very famous. But if anyone can bring about some protections for celebs who long for a little privacy, it’s Jennifer Lawrence, who is refreshingly direct and candid about how much it really, actually sucks to never have a moment’s peace.
In an interview with the AP, the “Hunger Games” star opened up once again about how damaging it is to be treated like a piece of public property, whether by invasive paparazzi photographers or by the people who hacked and disseminated her private pics in this summer’s mass photo leak.
Although the actress was never under any illusions about the lack of anonymity in celebrity life, she admitted that she hadn’t realized the emotional toll it would take.
“I knew the paparazzi were going to be a reality in my life,” Lawrence said. “But I didn’t know that I would feel anxiety every time I open my front door, or that being chased by 10 men you don’t know, or being surrounded, feels invasive and makes me feel scared and gets my adrenaline going every day.”
And though she acknowledged that celebrity complaints like this aren’t usually received with much sympathy (“Nobody wants to help us because it seems like, you know, ‘Shut up, millionaires!’”, she joked), Jennifer is lobbying hard to put protections in place so that illegally obtained photos can’t be spread without repercussion. As she pointed out, “If somebody jumps my fence and takes a picture through my window of me naked, that’s illegal, but the photos can still be everywhere the next day, and that makes no sense.”
Meanwhile, the actress had the support of her “Hunger Games” co-stars. Josh Hutcherson had a rejoinder to all the “You should’ve known better” scolds, saying, “They say, well, this is part of it, you should have known — but you can’t know. You don’t know how hard it is to lose your anonymity until it’s gone.” And Liam Hemsworth summed it up more bluntly:

Black Friday: Ghostly Images of Abandoned Malls by Seph Lawless (PHOTOS)

They're typically bustling with activity, packed during the winter holiday shopping season or teeming with families during the summer break, but the shopping malls in this selection of photos by photographerSeph Lawless are ghostly and eerie as they are left to succumb to the elements.
The two Ohio shopping malls in this slideshow above — Rolling Acres Mall and Randall Park Mall — were both built in the the mid-1970s and abandoned in 2008 and 2009. Both malls, which now feature dead plants, broken glass and crumbling walls, are set to be demolished any day now.
"There's nothing more profound and sobering then being inside an abandoned mall," said Lawless. "It's a powerful symbol of America's economic decline. I used to visit these malls often growing up. I remember eating cotton candy underneath the escalator and the sounds of people laughing and feet shuffling as the gentle sounds of falling water from one of the many fountains surrounded me. This was America."
Lawless' photos of abandoned shopping malls are collected in a new book, Black Friday - The Collapse of the American Shopping Mall.
Lawless is known for exploring abandoned spaces and documenting their imminent collapse. In 2012, he set out across the United States to photograph the "most broken parts of America." He came back with approximately 3,000 images and 17 hours of video footage. This year, Lawless released his book, Autopsy of America, a culmination of that work.
And while abandoned buildings dot the landscape of the American Rust Belt, photos of these decaying and boarded-up shopping malls,  once iconic cultural phenomena, may seem disturbing. But they shouldn't be surprising. About 15 percent of U.S. malls will fail or be converted into non-retail space within the next 10 years, according to Green Street Advisors, a real estate and REIT analytics firm, Business Insider reported.
But Lawless is planning to turn the collapse of the American mall into something positive. He is currently setting up small kiosks at active, operating malls in the surrounding suburbs to sell prints of the photos of the decaying malls, with all proceeds going to the Ohio Association of Foodbanks.
